Scalp Analysis Explained: What Your Scalp Can Tell You
We look after our faces every day, yet the scalp — the skin your hair grows from — is often forgotten. A quick look at your scalp before treatment tells your therapist a surprising amount about how to care for you.

Why the scalp matters
Your scalp is skin with oil glands, sweat glands and hair follicles. Dry shampoo, styling products, hard water and stress can all affect how it looks and feels. When the scalp is balanced and clean, hair often feels lighter and easier to manage.
What we look for
During your consultation we gently check:
- Oiliness — hair that feels greasy soon after washing
- Dryness or tightness — flaking, itchiness or a tight feeling
- Product build-up — residue around the hairline and crown
- Sensitivity — redness or reactivity to products
- Tension — tightness around the temples, crown and neck
How it shapes your treatment
What we notice guides the pressure of your massage, how long we spend on exfoliation and cleansing, and which face mask may suit you best — Sea Mud, Pink Clay, Firming, Hydrating or Calming for sensitive skin.
Signs to mention when you book
Let us know about allergies, recent colour or chemical treatments, scalp conditions such as psoriasis, or recent surgery. If you notice sudden hair loss, sores or persistent irritation, please speak with your GP or a trichologist — a head spa supports wellbeing but does not diagnose or treat medical conditions.
Caring for your scalp at home
Wash with lukewarm rather than very hot water, rinse thoroughly, avoid overusing dry shampoo and give your scalp a gentle fingertip massage for a few minutes a few times a week. Drinking water and getting good sleep help too.
