Head Spa vs Regular Hair Wash: What Is the Difference?

At first glance, a head spa and a salon hair wash both involve a basin and warm water. In reality they are completely different experiences, designed for different reasons.

The purpose

A salon wash prepares your hair for a cut or colour. It is quick, practical and usually lasts a few minutes. A head spa is the treatment itself — its purpose is scalp care and deep relaxation.

Time and pace

A wash might take five minutes. A Lunè Luxe head spa lasts from 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes, with every step done slowly and deliberately.

Techniques and products

A head spa adds steps you will never get in a quick wash:

  • Hair manipulation with traditional Japanese tools
  • Scalp oil and an unhurried scalp and head massage
  • Red light scalp therapy
  • Scalp exfoliation and deep cleanse
  • A hair health mask
  • The head waterfall experience
  • A mini facial with pressure points and a face mask

Comfort

Instead of leaning back in a salon chair, you lie on a heated bed with your neck supported. Many packages add steam and massage for your neck, shoulders, hands, arms or feet.

How you feel afterwards

After a wash, your hair is clean. After a head spa, guests tell us they feel lighter, calmer and properly rested — and their scalp feels refreshed for days.
